Mayor Joe got it started with his Downtown Summit on April 27th, and there’s no good reason why we shouldn’t keep the conversation going. My fix for downtown London is ...

  1. Homeless and the poor.

    Fix downtown London, and all of London by helping the homeless and the poor. That would improve our image a lot by showing we are humans who care.

  3. remove metal trees

    Remove the fake metal trees from the Downtown area, this is supposed to be the Forest City, more REAL trees would be nice, besides the fake ones are unsightly, in my opinion... embarrassing

  5. More outdoor food vendors that offer diverse cuisine.

    I love hot dogs and sausages as much as the next person, but it would be amazing if carts located throughout the downtown dished out asian noodles, jerk chicken, bulgogi, shawarma, biryani, etc.

  9. Encourage 'big box' stores to set up shop

    Why don't people go downtown to shop? Because all the popular stores we like to shop at are in big box parking lot malls. Bring in some big name retailers, and have them build their layout vertically like Kingsmills does instead of sprawling out. Or at least smaller retailers that sell the same things - electronics, affordable home furnishings, affordable stylish clothing...

  11. Restorations of Historical Buildings

    Use tax incentives or municipal funding to encourage restorations in the downtown. We are making some good progress on this, but need to do more to get more of these buildings into full use

  13. A parking authority that is run by the city. It will control the prices of parking spots,

    The city needs to take over most of the parking lots. It will control the prices for it does not skyrocket for special events, and maybe even have free parking in December in the lots and not only the the limited on street parking.

  14. Gutt the whole downtown and start over. make it like Celebration, Florida! Google it and see why!

    Downtown London right now is a lost cause. Gutt the whole thing. Google Celebration, Florida...this is what our city needs. Beautiful bright colours. No loitering, clean, friendly. Lots of little shops and food places. Downtown needs a HUGE overhaul!

    Right now, if you are at Victoria Park, or the Forks of the Thames, you have no idea that Downtown is just two blocks away.

  16. Richmond and Dundas

    Add more attractive businesses anyway possible to this intersection to compliment Starbucks and McDonalds.If no retail business is going to use the old CIBC building find someone to turn it into an apartment. It cant just be left there to gather dust and die or just become another parking lot.

  18. Make downtown pedestrian and bicycle ONLY

    I have a mock up in Google maps here:

    The only reason we need vehicle traffic downtown is so people can find places to park in the core. If people had places to park around the outside of the downtown (or if transit solutions were better - the dirty buses are 2.75 each way - cash only), the inside of downtown could easily go car free. Maybe try it for a month this summer and see what works and what doesn't.

  19. Pedestrian-only traffic on Dundas and Clarence Streets

    There was a traffic study done in London in 1973 that recommended closing Dundas Street between Ridout and Wellington, as well as Clarence Street north of King Street, to all traffic except pedestrians and cyclists. I'd like to see that idea revived. It would allow for a public square at what is now Dundas and Clarence, possibly with gardens and a fountain, and also it can be integrated with Victoria Park. London Transit would run on King and Queens.
