Tear down the old rundown buildings in London east
They want to revamp 'old east' London. They're already a step in the right direction with the senior apartment building that is going to go in where the Centretown Mall once was. But really, do you think an 88-year-old grandma is going to want to live next door to two pawn shops?
The best way to fix that stretch up is to just level everything on Dundas from Adelaide down to at least Lyle Street. - How many junk stores and pawn shops do we really need in London?
Put up new buildings and store fronts to entice businesses that will cater to the people that live in east London.
What they're doing now, with renovating the store fronts of that mini mart and what used to be an African restaurant, well, it's like putting lipstick on a pig. (for lack of a better description)

I agree with thatguyinlondon. Just because they don't cater to YOU & your demographic, who I assume spends 90% of their time in the suburbs.
You can't destroy heritage just because the buildings don't suit your needs. I frequent a lot of those stores to be honest, because you can find a lot of stuff you can't find in wallmart. Maybe if you actually went inside of a few stores & spent some time there you would be more aware of the character of the neighborhood. -

We'll have a scourge of 2nd hand stores as long as that's all some people can afford to furnish their hovel. The pawnshops are there as long as people need to float their valuables to pay the rent. Those businesses are there, and still doing business, because they doing business. (follow that?) Ask why and let's try to fix that.

I can't really remember those ones on Talbot, but anything would be an improvement over the sad looking ones down London east.

And regarding Centretown Mall, it sat vacant for far too long. I only vaguely remember when a store was last in there, (1991?) I think it was a Bargain Harold's or a By-Way?
