An error occurred while saving the comment GreatTallNorth2 commentedI totally agree with LRT for London. London only has an addiction to cars because the current transit system is rubbish. Btw, London had streetcars before, why can't we have them today?

An error occurred while saving the comment GreatTallNorth2 commentedWell the problem with the status quo (allowing the big box sprawl to continue) is that sprawl development creates more sprawl development. Don't think that these big box developers are going to build elsewhere. They are not. They need to service the people where the population is. Our developers and the city just need to be more creative when building these new stores. And how many empty holes do you want in the city? Who is going to fill up these buildings if we don't do something? Ever hear of Detroit? Vibrant shopping in the suburbs and lots of dead buildings in the city of Detroit. I don't want that, do you? Hyde Park Big Box sprawl is an utter disaster. That dumbmoves centre is the worst big box development I've ever seen. And now London taxpayers are stuck paying for the services.
An error occurred while saving the comment GreatTallNorth2 commentedRichard, you don't make much sense.
An error occurred while saving the comment GreatTallNorth2 commentedHyde Park and the DumbCentre there is another example of crazy big box sprawl. It is so pedestrian UN-friendly where you have box stores scattered everywhere. So dumb!

An error occurred while saving the comment GreatTallNorth2 commentedHere is my explanation - you cannot stop chain restaurants from opening up anywhere, including downtown. We live in a free society and if a chain wants to open up, they can. Proposing a law to stop a chain restaurant from opening downtown? We would be the laughing stock of the world. The more chains that open, we will see better quality independent restaurants and more diversity. I'm not saying that we as Londoners shouldn't support independents. I'm saying that stopping chains from coming is a terrible, terrible idea that won't fly with anyone.

London needs some great attractions in the CORE of the city -bring excitement to residents & tourism
25 votesGreatTallNorth2 supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment GreatTallNorth2 commentedHey Steph, the attractions you listed are not major attractions. We know this because they attract very few people. Gina is talking about a major attraction that brings many, many people to London.

An error occurred while saving the comment GreatTallNorth2 commentedYes, whoever planned the road's system did a bad job, but London will never, ever build an in city freeway. Also, we should not build a ring road freeway because it will promote what you said we don't need in point 5. A ring road will further kill the inner city.

An error occurred while saving the comment GreatTallNorth2 commentedInstead of rides, how about some statues, etc. that are unique. I know that in boston at the boston common park, they have these nice gold ducks. I just don't want to see Victoria park turned into a carnival. Another thing, could Victoria park be expanded..like past wellington.
An error occurred while saving the comment GreatTallNorth2 commentedLove the idea, but forget about rides. Victoria Park isn't and shouldn't be a carnival. Make it a great park.

An error occurred while saving the comment GreatTallNorth2 commentedYes, building a good transit system does cost big money, but so does maintaining the status quo. Ask anyone in a city with great transit - like Portland, Vancouver, San Francisco, Calgary, etc. and they will tell you it is worth it to have great transit. Transit fares are not the problem. The problem is London's lackluster system.
An error occurred while saving the comment GreatTallNorth2 commentedStupidest idea ever. Build a better transit system that people want to ride on..like light rail.

The idea of free parking in London’s downtown is a good one. It could bring people to the city’s core and encourage the commerce business owners need. LFP will explore the pros and cons of this divisive issue in the weeks to come.
An error occurred while saving the comment GreatTallNorth2 commentedFree Parking? Terrible idea. Parking is a non issue. What does free parking give anyone? I can park free at Masonville, White Oaks and everywhere else. Downtown needs unique attractions that attract people.

Too late, London is already the laughing stock of Ontario. We have no vision to build a great transportation system. The old boys network are pushing for a ring road around the city, which will create more sprawl and less density. This makes it even worse for transit. The best thing we can do is let our politicians know that we want transportation and communities for PEOPLE, not just vehicles. The other big thing that has to happen is for Larry Ducharme, the LTC head, to get the boot. He has no vision whatsoever.
