Rapid Bus Transit (RBT) or Light Rail Transit (LRT)
With a RBT or a LRT it will remove 4 lanes of traffic in Downtown (1 in each direction). But in result, it will get poeple downtown and across London faster so less need for parking. There would be mainly two routes (one North / South, the other (East / West). People can get on the first bus / streetcar that comes instead for upto 30 minutes (or an hour at weekends and evening) So there would be not a many people hanging around.

It's a joke that we don't already have BRT here. Cities of comparable size are currently planning extensive new LRT networks and London can't even seem to wrap its head around Express Buses.

Too late, London is already the laughing stock of Ontario. We have no vision to build a great transportation system. The old boys network are pushing for a ring road around the city, which will create more sprawl and less density. This makes it even worse for transit. The best thing we can do is let our politicians know that we want transportation and communities for PEOPLE, not just vehicles. The other big thing that has to happen is for Larry Ducharme, the LTC head, to get the boot. He has no vision whatsoever.

I agree, Dundas untill Highbury is pretty useless as a transportation coridor same could be said about Richmond until Windermere. An L train connecting the two would be pretty economically feasible and would be a huge boost in keeping many UWO & Fanshaw grades (currently UWO grad retention is about 5%) Many are going back to Toronto, Ottawa, & many other cities. across the country.
Comparables
Halfiax has 3 BRT routes & is completing a fourth & is roughly the size (population wise) of LondonK-W is getting LRT & just surpassed Londons population.
EVEN HAMILTON is getting LRT... do we really want London to be the next joke of Ontario?

The SmartMoves Forum is a joke filled with spam. How does SmartMoves expect Londoners to take it seriously if they cannot maintain a website?

With the Smart Moves London. There is a study to see if an RBT or a LRT can work in London.

I agree with LRT as it would spur investment along the entire route. Several lines could be located in the city. These include Richmond/Wellington from Masonville to White Oaks, Dundas from Argyle to downtown and along Oxford from the airport to STA in the west end.

I totally agree with LRT for London. London only has an addiction to cars because the current transit system is rubbish. Btw, London had streetcars before, why can't we have them today?

The 1973 transportation study I mentioned in another thread included such a proposal, and it should be re-visited. That proposal recommended making Wellington one-way northbound and Richmond one-way southbound from Grey to Oxford Street. Today this could be done as far north as Pall Mall. The original proposal had BRT running along Wellington into South London, along Springbank into West London, along Dundas into East London, and up to UWO. Something along those lines, also including Fanshawe College, should be looked at.

This would be a great idea, except for the London addiciton to it's cars and it's desire to build more housing further and further into the countryside instead of destroying old buildings and infilling the brownfields. However, should a mayor decide that instead of building industrial land along the 401 he shoudl build a RBT or LRT to help reduce traffic problems, then you have a good idea. Fontana won't- he loves big projects that create big press releases. LRT/RBT ain't sexy enough for Joe. So put this onto the 2050 list at earliest~and by then it will be too late.
