An error occurred while saving the comment An error occurred while saving the comment thatguyinlondon commentedThe main question will always be: Where is the money coming from? And: Is a new City Hall more important than other issues, cost and return-wise. Fontana says if he spends $100 million the city will see a return of $400 million. How does that work and how long will this take?

What if the businesses of London got together and sponsored a City Hall Makeover reality show? A-Channel could do a series. It would be novel and unique and perhaps get national press, recognition and support.
Taxation by choice. This "tax" would be from advertising budgets and even with some just from goodwill.
That's $100 million saved, with all the proposed benefits plus some.An error occurred while saving the comment thatguyinlondon commentedBlair, but you are working and likely making a decent wage. There are thousands in London who cannot find work and thousands who have to work in much worse conditions for minimum wage. Will the taxpayers be ponying up $100m to improve their situation? I think not. BTW: What offices are on the 11th floor? Sorry, I have no call to visit city hall so really don't know the layout.

An error occurred while saving the comment thatguyinlondon commentedGetting some of the offices out of the court building would be a good plan too, or make another entrance. (for all I know this has been done) I once went to get my birth certificate replaced. While downtown I did some shopping. One stop was the liquor store. I was denied access to the office because I had liquor. There was no place to store it and the guard even suggested I just stash it outside. As if! I can understand not allowing alcohol in the courts, but all I wanted was a birth certificate application. That was years ago. I still haven't gone back.

An error occurred while saving the comment thatguyinlondon commentedSo maybe this wasn't The Most Brilliant Idea Ever. Glad I added that question mark. :P I thought it would garner a bunch of dialogue. If nothing else people having fun with it. A friend of mine and I did just that. He asked the question of naming rights. There's a lot of money in naming rights, but I felt we needed to draw the line. Do we want a Tonda or Sifton London City Hall? (sorry only 2 construction names that came to mind) Or the John Labatt City Hall. No, it doesn't feel right at all. The name would have to be changed. Maybe the Rogers Civic Building. My son joked it could be the McDonald's City hall and I envisioned a whole different view of their dining room. Google City Hall. LOL
We would also have to be creative with how to give "the little" people a chance for name recognition. I was thinking of the names on tiles in the square between City Hall and Centennial Hall (The Bell Centennial Hall after massive upgrades). We could have engraved bricks or a massive plaque. People could (like some trees in Vic park) donate for a memorial plaque. I am sure there are people who would like City Hall as their memorial "statue".thatguyinlondon shared this idea · -

An error occurred while saving the comment thatguyinlondon commentedI wouldn't work someplace where people smoked if I didn't smoke. Sorry, I try to accommodate everyone. I have a silly sense of equality and personal freedoms.
An error occurred while saving the comment thatguyinlondon commentedI dislike having to dodge kids while I am walking downtown. Just saying.
I thought this was about allowing smoking inside certain places, like a place smokers can go for a drink or bite to eat and non-smokers can avoid like the plague.
An error occurred while saving the comment thatguyinlondon commentedPeople should have a choice.
An error occurred while saving the comment thatguyinlondon commentedIt really should be up to the establishment owner.

Why does "everything" have to be in City Hall? What takes up most of the space? Council is rarely there and wants to be there less so a board table at the Convention Center, say, would suffice. As long as it had reliable media equipment, not microphones that don't seem to work at certain moments (or so I have read). How many people actually go to the Mayor's Office?
