London has a very distinct culture of being multicultural and has been at the forefront of festivals when they didn't exist anywhere else.

I went to the Home County Folk Festival for years. The City ruined it's uniqueness by first allowing SunFest (which I also enjoy) to immediately precede the Home Counties and thereby drain off a large number of visitors. The second big city mistake was having someone redesign Victoria Park into a go-cart track without taking into account in any way how that park is used on a regular basis. They took away several major sidewalks which reduced the number of craft booths and a lot of people go to the Home Counties for the crafts. We need to put Victoria Park back to it's original state and quit trying to redesign the wheel.

Well they did have a group years ago that wanted to set up the old Capitol Theatre as a performing arts centre and the city hall made sure that didn't happen. They wanted all their money to go into the arena and what's making that place viable - the music and arts performance. Then they thought it was a great place for IMAX, which it was, but the Western Fair got IMAX which is no longer in operation because it was placed in a very obscure location. All this city wants is to spend money on sports venues. The attraction of something other than sports is foreign to them and they have no understanding that arts brings in lots of money overall.

Downtown is a filthy mess. We used to have a person who spent all day sweeping the streets and keeping it clean. Ever since our major downtown landlord took over the storefronts are dirty and the windows haven't been cleaned in years. Make the restaurants clean up after their smoking customers as the streets are awash with old butts. That sweeping machine that goes by once a month doesn't let it's brushes touch the ground. We need solid bylaws with big fines to make the business owners keep the buildings and sidewalks clean and passable. They're getting rich off our tax dollars renting to endless help projects the least they can do is not make our downtown look like a ghetto.

How about New Amsterdam. Rename London? They want good ideas.
