I love the idea of becoming a leader in green energy! That would be huge for London if we could become one of the most environmentally friendly city's in Canada and encourage others to follow our lead.

thatguyinlondon: well said. People have different personality types and different views on what 'friendly' is. That is something that you can't change, and really shouldn't have to. Everyone is different.
That being said; assholes are assholes and they should be nicer.

I've spent my entire life in London and over the last few years I have realized a few things.
The problem with our city is that it's a student town. UWO and Fanshawe college bring in thousands of young adults from surrounding areas. It's good for downtown businesses throughout the school year, but downtown can turn into a ghost town when they leave.
I don't know how to say this without offending someone out there BUT, I work in a restaurant downtown. Students are the worst customers that I have ever dealt with. They're rude, they're cheap, and they are annoying because they all act like airheaded bimbos. That's not to say ALL students, but it's worth noting. When summer starts and the students go back to their mansions in Toronto we are left to enjoy ourselves with our regular customers who have been with us from the start, and are some of the kindest people that I have ever met in this city.
Part of the reason that this city may seem so unfriendly is because a lot of people aren't actually FROM this city, they don't really care about it or the people who live here.

I'm sorry, are you saying spend all of the city's money on UWO? Last I checked, London had a population of 489,274 people who DON'T go to Western. London is a city, not a university. This comment is very selfish and typical.

By any other name would smell as sweet."This is the City of London, the name of the city is part of it's heritage and changing the name isn't going to change any other problems that have developed, or are currently developing in the city.

This website has a list of most of the events going on in our city. There are plenty of places to visit, festivals, concerts, etc. Not everything will appeal to one person but there is variety. Many people (especially young adults such as myself) don't realize that this information is available to them. The best way to get out and discover your city is through talking to people. Go to a few of these events, eg. tea at the Eldon House, or Museum London, the Market, the new Met, and just talk to people. A lot of the people at these places know London from top to bottom. I don't think that London has no distinct culture, I just think that some people don't know how and where to find it.

I do agree with allowing buskers though, I didn't know that wasn't allowed. I see them from time to time.

How can you just take away all of the rules? There need to be some sort of regulations in order to keep these things under control. What if this is a business selling food? Do you really want to buy food from someone who doesn't have to follow any rules or regulations regarding their product? My guess is no.
Also, on the idea of thinking big; London is a bigger city than it think it is. It has downtown, old north, old south, and then.... pretty much a bunch of industrial or sketchy neighbourhoods. There should be more than one "downtown", in a sense.
