Just Some thoughts...
London needs some vast improvement; I think we can all agree on this. So these are just some of my thoughts about improving London. Some of these ideas have come from talking to others, reading these threads, and some of my own thinking. So just to state I do not take ownership of any of these ideas...
Develop a free-way. London has some of the worst trafic jams and congestion of any city. Whoever planned out the roadways did a terrible job. A free-way would alow for greater movement, bringing people to other parts of the city they normaly wouldnt…

London's dominant industries and institutions have failed over time to invest, promote, and exploit
London's dominant industries and institutions have failed to invest, promote, and exploit growth and jobs for their graduates. These businesses, which derive great tax and services benefit from being supported by this communitiy, fail miserably at applying their collective intelligence and wealth to finding and developing new startup businesses and cultural opportunites that would attract or keep young minds. Where is the UWO and Fanshawe committment to this city off campus. Why is the medical and health industry that finds much of it's root research and development in this city not exploiting further businesses along this food chain in the…

We need a big change to the Covent Garden Market
Covent Garden Market is smaller than it was and has lost the diversity and realism the old market had. All the fruit and veg stands are from the same family so there's no choice there. The Western Fair market is so much more vibrant. It's great to have a farmer's market out in the sweating heat and sun a couple of days a week but otherwise it's a yuppie's dream. There is no reason that the Market can't do the job of a grocery store except we need to make some big changes to make ownership more diverse so there…

London Needs to Think Big
We need to cast aside the prevailing attitude of myopia that plagues this city, and we need to shed the small town mentality. London is not a small town, it is a thriving city of close to half a million people. London needs to cast the die on a project that will distinguish it from the other cities of SW-Ont. A project, for example, installing muni-fibre, or becoming a leader in green energy would grab people's attention and make them think, "There's a city on the rise, that's where I'd like to live."

Cities are rarely, if ever, boring
I believe if anyone labels an entire urban area, a place with a population greater than 350,000, dull and boring, the person is revealing themselves as dull and boring.

Look to Cleveland.
The Free Press should be careful when acting smug. The paper asked: "Who wants to be the Cleveland of Canada?" According to Wikipedia, "Cleveland is considered an exemplar for public-private partnerships, downtown revitalization, and urban renaissance. In studies conducted by The Economist in 2005 Cleveland was ranked as one of the most livable cities in the United States, and the city was ranked as the best city for business meetings in the continental U.S." Have you seen Cleveland's market? Or the Tower City Center? Or it's heritage district? Cleveland has serious problems but that does not mean one cannot learn…

Family Entertainment opportunities in East London - similar to Storybook, Adventures on Wonderland
It's a pain to have to drive for 25 minutes to do something extra special with a family. West London has Adventures on Wonderland, Kidscape, Storybook Gardens, the Aquatic Center, Springbank Park. What does East London have? Kiwanis Park - yehaw! Bring in something to entertain the families of East London so we don't have to drive all over the place. Give us something fun!

traffic
london needs to do something with the traffic lights, maybe synchronize them? that could help people running red lights, help traffic flow, and gas use. Maybe more over/under passes for trains, 20 minutes for a train at 5 pm is terrible.

Festivals, Excitement, Parking/Traffic
Bring back Gus Macker & the rest of the festivals which brought people pouring into Downtown from places as far as Ohio. Bring back some rock concerts, some excitement... everything we lost to a conservative mentality. This city is very car oriented, so parking is a given. Without it downtown will suffer... Mr. Farhi didn't get as much success as he has achieved by being an idiot regarding property, business and the overall basics of what fills his commercial space. Also, build some wider roads/expressways... anyone who has seen Wellington at 5pm would think this was Los Angeles.... just ridiculous,…

London need's to put UWO's feet to the fire
City Hall needs to change the main focus of UWO's research and development toward local ventures instead of international. More than just "encourage" linkages between London businesses and UWO, Ivey and local hospitals, it's time to convince them of who is paying a large portion of the bills. London industry deserves to be first the list of potential partners, not the last resort. This idea will be received with shock and awe!

Get a REAL newspaper
How about something that reports the REAL news and not just what's decided by the owners and politicians. Pick up a Scene magazine or even a METRO to see how it's done. Not by having a skewed view and appealing to people in power, but actually a newspaper for the citizens of this town. Who's London?? Trying to put a spin on this city with it's constant construction, stupid metallic trees, spendthrift politicians and outdated traffic light system? Forget it!

Restore downtown! Bring back the Festivities!
London has lost it's appeal in many ways. The atmosphere, the activities and the people are not quite as friendly. London has become rough around the edges. Population has risen and we've become crowded and congested. Life is tough enough, bring the spunk back to London and restore people's faith in our city.

Try creating a petting farm at Western Fairgrounds
The petting farm set up during the fair is always packed. So why not set one up for weekends because what children or family doesnt enjoy interacting and seeing farm animals. It can also be used to display the farming/agricultural industry from around London/Middlesex county...

CLEAN UP GARBAGE!
Once the snow melts we need to get crews in to clean up the garbage that has been hidden under the snow. Westminster ponds is filthy right now. Wellington from Southdale to downtown is disgusting. Downtown London looks as though it was cleaned up quickly, but what about the rest of the "forest city" ???
I would gladly volunteer to help clean this up and I think that others should as well.
