Mayor Joe got it started with his Downtown Summit on April 27th, and there’s no good reason why we shouldn’t keep the conversation going. If you have a thought about the core that did not come up at the summit or you want to talk about any of the ideas that did, here’s your forum. Post it and see what others think.

  2. I read in the Freeps that Tricar is considering building another tower in downtown. This is fantastic news, but I beg you to hire a proper architect and design this building nicer than the twin towers across from the JLC. No more commie blocks in London please. This is not 1970's Leningrad.

  3. London needs a tourist attraction that would attract visitors from the Great Lakes region. Some kind of major museum or science centre or aquarium would bring people from all over and would be great for Londoners to come to. Check out http://www.tnaqua.org/Home.aspx and you will see what Chattanooga, Tennessee built. It's a major draw from all over the Southern USA. Chattanooga used to be a dump, but now with this attraction, they are a tourist hotspot. We are in a perfect location and we are a nice size and safe city. The hotels would love to have something like this…

  7. In the newsroom, we've been kicking around what could make the forks a more lively place – bars & patios, a river walk, a bandshell for free shows, etc. Surprising that hasn't come up anywhere yet.

  9. Get rid of the hood rats that loiter, the smoking baby mommas, and the open drug market that has been operating at Dundas and Richmond for years

  11. With a RBT or a LRT it will remove 4 lanes of traffic in Downtown (1 in each direction). But in result, it will get poeple downtown and across London faster so less need for parking. There would be mainly two routes (one North / South, the other (East / West). People can get on the first bus / streetcar that comes instead for upto 30 minutes (or an hour at weekends and evening) So there would be not a many people hanging around.

  12. Move the main bus lines off Dundas and keep the rowdy passengers waiting elsewhere. Especially if Dundas goes car free!

  13. After reading the article on the LF Press about our identify issues and the need for young people to stick around, my first thoughts are on the job market. With the people I'm connected to, London does not have a good reputation regarding its workforce. We are a city full of call centers and other places where people have low-paying or minimum wage jobs. The workers have no job security and no way to advance in their fields. When I first moved here, I worked at a call center with 1000 people. People were hired or fired without a blink…

  15. London has a height limitation for new buildings. I'm not sure why we have this. We should encourage builders to build taller buildings and also encourage them to stop building commie block concrete towers. We have so many ugly twin towers made of concrete. Can't we use better design and put some glass in these towers?

  16. London has no real tourist attractions. Anyone that thinks Storybook Gardens is even close to an attraction is wrong. We have a gem of a building at the forks of the Thames. It is currently being used as office space for the County of Middlesex. Such a waste of the current building, which looks like a castle. It could be converted back to an attraction showing it's original use as a jail and courthouse. Put in people who dress from the late 1800's and show how life used to be back then. Ever heard of Alcatraz? It's San Fran's biggest…

  19. The Central Libray is open on Sundays, from Oct to May, and closed during the summer, Having the library open on Sundays during the summer, allow parents who work during the weekend, to take they children. It also does draw lots of people. and be something else to do downtown on a sunday.
